Redworth MD meets the creator of Inspector Morse
There was no mystery when Howard Rogers, the managing director of Redworth Construction, one of North Yorkshire’s leading building companies, came face to face with Colin Dexter, the creator of the legendary Inspector Morse.
The two men met at the opening ceremony of £3.5 million Abingdon Court care home in Abingdon, near Oxford.
Howard Rogers commented: “It was a great honour to meet Colin. He is the mastermind behind one of the greatest television series ever made and I felt privileged to show him around a care home which we had built”.
Redworth Construction built the 64-bed care home for London-based operators Carebase and it has already been nominated for a prestigious award in the healthcare equivalent of the architectural Oscars. Abingdon Court is a finalist in the Elderly Care Contemporary Design category of the 2007 Healthcare Design Awards, which will take place at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London on March 28.
Mr Rogers said: “We feel very proud of what we have achieved at Abingdon Court. It is a first-class care home with first-class facilities.
Mike Hirsch, the property director of Carebase, said: “Redworth Construction have done a superb job at Abingdon, delivering a quality building on time. The fact that the home has been nominated for an award speaks volumes and is a testament to Redworth’s excellent work.
He added: “Not surprisingly, after the success at Abingdon, we are using Redworth Construction again. They are building another care home for us at Histon, near Cambridge, and we are confident of getting another first-class home.
Redworth have recently completed Roby House in Huyton, which is owned and run by the award-winning company Meridian Healthcare. It features a cinema complex, in-house hair studio, relaxation therapy room and en-suite facilities.
Earlier this year it was announced that Redworth are moving to a new home in Old Malton – on their own brand-new development.
The company, whose turnover is expected to exceed £26 million next year after six years of trading, is relocating to a unique £5 million office development at Manor Park, Malton.
The two-acre Manor Park, which is situated in a picturesque conservation area of Old Malton, has direct access to the busy A64 Leeds-York-Scarborough trunk road and is less than a mile away from the market town of Malton.
